The Healthier Buckeye concept had its origin in a bipartisan House/Senate work group during the budget making process in 2013. The initiative stems from realization that there are barriers interfering with many in our communities who desire to move up and off of needing public assistance, including Medicaid. These conversations have brought our focus to engaging state leaders in efforts to help our local communities address these barriers.

The Fayette County Healthier Buckeye council identified substance abuse and poverty as Fayette County’s significant barriers to moving our citizens off public assistance.  To combat these issue, the Healthier Buckeye program will:

Create support groups to empower individuals to create and implement a plan to move out of poverty through the Getting Ahead program;

Bring Fayette County into compliance with the Drug Free Community standard;

Create an inpatient treatment facility and sober living facility in Fayette County through the Faith in Recovery Coalition.
