Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels program is available to
persons who are homebound or have special dietary restrictions,
regardless of age. The food is provided by the Fayette County
Memorial Hospital and delivered by a Community Action employee
every day Monday through Friday at noon.

Mission Statement
The mission of the home delivered meals program is to provide a
noon meal to persons who are homebound and who do not qualify
for the meals program operated by the Commission on Aging.

History
The Home Delivered Meals program was
originally operated by the Baptist Church, with many recipients
covered by Title XX. The church discontinued providing meals
in the 1980s. In order to keep the service available, a group
of volunteers from the church incorporated into a separate
non-profit (in order to bill for Title XX funds). This group
purchased meals from the hospital and volunteers delivered
them. As the volunteers grew older, fewer of them could help
with the program and when it looked as though the program would
have to shut down, the Department of Job & Family Services
requested CAC help out. CAC had been providing funds to the new
non-profit through the FEMA grant. CAC took over meal delivery
and billing the DJFS for Title XX funds. When CAC first took
over the program there were over 20 persons receiving meals.
When DJFS dropped the Title XX contract, the program shrank
drastically and there are now only 4 people on the program.
